9 Saturday morning was the start of our fall ride We had a great
turn out, 17 bikes after everyone received a map we headed north
to sacandaga lake we met up with a few more riders at fullers store.
We rode up north shore dr. in heavy fog. This road was quite twisty
and it beckoned tome. I picked up the pace to a very spirited speed
and saw that many of the riders were eager to keep up. We stopped
in stony creek for a quick break and to let the slower riders catch
up, then off to the next leg. We zipped through back roads to rt
28 and stopped in north creek for coffee, gas and BS’ing.
We then headed up 28 and picked up 28N Just past Gore Mt. I set
a much faster pace. Rick on his Kl200 decided to set a blistering
pace and most tried to keep up. Old brits have to give up some horse
power to the 1200cc Beemer but the modern Triumph’s gave it
their best. As I looked at my speedo it never seemed to be under
80 mph My 73 Tiger felt great.
Rt28 is a fairly twisty road and traffic was lite. The few cars
we came upon would pull over and wave us by. They must ride bikes
too. We stopped at the blue ridge (rt 2 on map) so our bikes and
everyone could, rest. Some locals stopped by on their bikes. they
were amazed at all the old bikes [and riders]. We headed down the
blue ridge and it didn't take long to start really hauling.rt2 is
a incredibly nice motorcycle road. About the halfway point rt 2
opens up a bit and some big sweepers and long straights are in front
of you. Rick and his beemer Pete & Tim on their modern triumphs
walked away from the rest of us. Doug Boughton stole his wife’s
GB500 for the day, a perfect bike for this ride. At one point Doug
drafted by me with a smirk and a wave. He pulled back in and the
chase was on. We crested the hill and I stuck my eyeballs between
the gauges, wicked the throttle up full and passed on the down side.
| good thing for gravity], we stopped at the old frontier town for
a much needed break. Everyone had a smile on their faces.
Rick Snyder and I grew up together, He reminded me that the last
time we road together was 35 years ago. Thanks for reminding me
how old I am Rick... We headed north on 9 to rt4 to rt43.rt4 is
narrow and twisty. Doug and 1 decided no modern bikes were going
to best us on this road and we let our bikes rip. Take no prisinors.rt43
brought us to crown point, from there we rode to Lake George [Bolton
landing] where we stopped for an early dinner. From there we split
up and went our separate ways. We met new friends and old, we road
almost 250 miles on some of the best roads on a beautiful day. To
all those that came. I thank you. To all those that missed this
ride, try to make it next year. Until then, keep the rubber side
down,
